Open Studio Figure Drawing - 1 Session

COST: $20/ single session

Join us at our figure drawing open studio! 

In this two-hour session, you'll have the opportunity to work on various figure poses with a live model in Princeton Academy of Art 138 Nassau St studio in your own personal style!

A monitor will be available to answer any questions about the space and organize the model.

The Academy provides easels, boards, and clips available for these sessions.

Please refer to the list below for a list of approved supplies you can bring to your session:

  • Wax Crayons
  • Oil paint
  • Turpenoid/Gamsol 

TURPENTINE IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

Plein Air/Indoor Landscape Painting

In this course, students become familiar with classical landscape. The aesthetic ideals of historic landscape help contemporary artists build their understanding of composition, atmosphere, and value. 

Students will experiment with all prima painting and underpainting techniques.

Depending on the weather, this course will be held indoors or outdoors.

Figure Drawing Intensive

In this 4-session course, students will be introduced to figure/ground relationships, gesture, composition, value scales, and the fundamentals of perspective.

Students will learn a tactile approach to drawing that provides students with the tools to build strong perceptual and analytical skills.

Each session will be composed of "quick" poses meant to enforce a relational understanding of the human figure, followed by longer poses or anatomical study.

Portrait Painting Workshop

This intensive workshop is designed to provide students with a comprehensive grasp of the structure, resemblance, and essence of the sitter. We focus on the anatomical proportions, volume, and scale of the subject. Students will use chiaroscuro, sfumato, and other light modeling techniques.

Students will work from the live model.
