Character Creation Workshop: Dumuren

with Kristie Zhu

Join PAA Portfolio Preparation alumna and current Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) illustrator, Krisite Zhu, for a character design workshop based on her original storyboard, Dumuren.

Dumuren are peacekeeping creatures that protect the people of their world. As these creatures grow, they face challenges that lead them closer and closer to the coveted champion status.

Kristie will teach students the basic stuctures of the Dumuren so that they can create and name their own champions. Students will draw and paint their characters with traditional media.

with Dr. Abbey Ellis

Calendar Next available session starts Aug 15, 2022 at 10:30 am

Join Dr. Abbey Ellis of the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, and PAA for an exciting dive into the cast-making process using multiple techniques!

Students (and their parents!) will try their hand at creating their own plaster ornaments reminiscent of oscilla, circular relief-decorated discs that adorned many ancient Roman peristyle gardens.

As well as casting their oscilla discs using Plaster of Paris, participants will have the option to burnish their creations using gold powder or mock fresco using gouache paint.

Students and parents will also be able to experiment with alginate molding their hands!
